SUMMER 2017 TEEN PROGRAMMING

Teen Kick-off Dance Party: Wednesday, June 28, 6:30-8:30 pm

Build a Better World with your friends and dance the night away with D.J. fun, games & prizes. Grades 6-12.

Escape the Room: Wednesday, July 12th at 7:00pm

Work in teams to figure out clues and solve puzzles to “Escape the Room” or you might just get trapped in the library for good! Grades 6-12.

Build a Better World Artfully:  Monday, July 17, 4:00-6:00 pm.

The Montclair Art Museum Truck visits the Library to inspire young artist’s imaginations and develop their creative talents.  All Ages

Writing Workshop: Wednesday, July 19th 4pm-5:30pm

Do you love to write and build worlds with your words?  Then come to our summer teen writing workshop With YA Author Jennifer Walkup. Grades 4-8

Super Smash Bros. Gaming Tournament: Wednesday, July 19th at 7:00pm

Join your friends for the ultimate tournament of Super Smash Bros. for the WiiU! Grades 6-12. Registration Required to Participate. (Update:  Capacity for players met, come by to support your friends. We'll also have a waitlist in case of player no shows.) 

Harry Potter World: Wednesday, July 26th at 7:00pm

Help build a better world Potter-style. Bring a pair of socks or other article of clothing to enter our very own Harry Potter World. Clothing will be donated to a local charity.  Be sure to dress in theme for our costume contest! All Ages

Teen Karaoke Night!: Wednesday, August 2nd at 7:00pm

Build memories and have a blast at our teen Karaoke night! Snacks and refreshments provided. Grades 6-12.

Illustration Workshop: Wednesday, August 9th at 7:00pm

Get inspired by anime illustrator and West Orange’s own Paul Walcott! Paul will share his story, offer a drawing demo, and then guide artists in an illustration exercise. Grades 6-12

Fan Fiction Club: Tuesdays July 11 - August 15 from 4:00pm – 5:00

Do you love Harry Potter? Can you not get enough of Percy Jackson? Join other fans as you create and share stories based on the characters and worlds you know so well! Snacks provided at each club meeting. (Best for Middle Grade / Middle School Age Group)

Crochet Club: Fridays July 14, July 28, August 11and August 25th from 2pm-4pm 

Bridge the generations at our crochet club for teens and adults. The clubs main focus will be on crocheting hats and blankets for newborns to be collected and donated at the end of August to RWJ Barnabas NICU.  All ages and all skill levels welcome!

TeensSpeak!: Saturdays July 22nd- August 12th

The Michael Aymar Foundation, who ran the Raise the Grade series this past winter, is back with a summer series focused on public speaking. Grades 5-8.  Please Register.

 

MONTHLY PROGRAMMING (September - June)

Teen Advisory Group (T.A.G.), 1st Wednesday of the Month

(Open to teens) T.A.G meets the 1st Wednesday of every month between September and June. West Orange Public Library TAG members are dedicated to making sure the library is meeting the needs and wants of teens in the community.  TAG members are teen leaders who help plan, faciliate and run programs targeted to teens and other age groups as well. Teen Writing Club, 2nd Wednesday of the Month

(Grades 6-12) Whether you dream of being a published writer one day or simply want to give writing a story a shot, join other teen writers in this creative club sure to inspire and motivate! Stay tuned to learn about upcoming workshops run by local authors!

Teen Game Night, 3rd Wednesday of the Month

(Grades 6-12) Whether you enjoy multiplaying videogaming on the Wii-U or board games there's something for every gamer!  As always, teen game night will feature the Wii-U. Each week we'll also put out fan favorites as well as a new table top game for clever gamers to try to figure out and maybe even master.

Anime Club,  4th Wednesday of the Month

(Grades 6-12) Experience anime and manga with other West Orange teens. Discover new shows, rewatch favorites, draw, write, create, discover and of course, cosplay!  

OTHER PROGRAMMING 

Dungeons and Dragons,  Wednesdays 4pm-6:30pm

(Ages 13+) Registration is required. Limited to 6-8 players max.
